An alumni of the University of Winnipeg, David Turczyn gained membership with the Manitoba Bisons in unorthodox circumstances. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, the Manchester United supporter pursued a Master of Science. Following talks with the team, Turczyn was granted acceptance for his research.
“I got accepted into a Master of Science program with the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management and always found that soccer was interesting, so I started my research with the Manitoba Bisons.” Said Turczyn.
Even though he does not consider the Bison’s women’s soccer team as a long-term commitment in his academic plans, Turczyn remains grateful for his introduction to his post-undergraduate endeavors.
“It’s a stepping stone, but I’m a master student who caught a break to work with this soccer team.” Said Turczyn.
His presence on the team sets a major example of future students in the field of Kinesiology. For those students pursuing an opportunity with any athletic clubs, Turczyn has one major piece of advice that he hopes many till take to heart.
“The main thing is, don’t worry about whether someone is going to say yes or no – go and ask them,” Said Turczyn. “Just take a chance.”
