Vanessa Martinez Lagunas

    Head Coach - Women's Soccer
Vanessa was the head coach of the University of Manitoba Bison women’s soccer program from 2013 to 2024. She guided the Herd to the playoffs in seven of the last nine seasons. Martinez Lagunas became the fourth coach in the program's history.

Martinez Lagunas holds a PhD in sports science and her playing résumé includes representing her native Mexico from 1999 to 2004 and playing with the Bundesliga Giants Bayern in Munich in the 2007-08 season.

Martinez Lagunas' coaching credentials includes her UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations) Pro license as she served as the Intern Coach with the FC Energie Cottbus Men's Team, The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "A" Coaching License, USSF National Goalkeeping License and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premier Diploma. From 2009-11, she was an assistant coach with the U17/U16 German women's national team as well as the FC Lokomotive Leipzig Women. She is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist with Certification from the National Strength Coaches Association and an ACE Personal Training Certification.
