Biography

Strikers are expected to put the ball in the back of the net any way possible. For new Bisons recruit Lauren Martens, that meant she had to work on being a two-foot player.

“One of the adversities I had to overcome to get to this point is developing my ability to play with my left foot as well as my right foot. I've made significant improvement, but I am still working hard to accomplish my left foot proficiency."

She arrives at the University of Manitoba on the back of captaining her high school and with the experience of playing for some of Winnipeg’s biggest clubs in the past, including South End United, Portage Trail and Winnipeg Phoenix.

At the time of her arrival to the Bison women’s soccer team, Martens targeted a continual development of her skill set as an athlete.

By the 2018 Spring Tournament, she was ready to appear in the brown and gold jersey. Martens scored the winning goal in the Bison’s opening match against the Saskatchewan Huskies, a moment which she lists as her greatest accomplishment to date.

With two years of U SPORTS experience under her belt, Martens is expecting a 2019 campaign in which she can execute.

"I would like to improve my ability to finish scoring chances in the opponents final third."
