2016 Women's Soccer Roster
Biography
Homegrown talent Selina Speranza was a Bison who nearly did not become a Bison. In her final year of high school, the May ID camp invitee of three years was given the option of playing soccer in the Unites States.
In the end, Speranza stayed at home and linked with the Manitoba Bisons. It was naturally a perfect fit as she comes to the end of her Bisons career at the end of this upcoming season.
“Personally, staying here at home was the best option,” Said Speranza. “It was hard to leave when everything was right at home; the soccer was definitely to the next level and the team felt a family.”
Speranza plays an attack-minded wide midfielder on both flanks – a position which she flourished in last season and picked up Midfielder of the Year’s honor at the Bison’s Soccer Awards Dinner back in May 2016.
“I personally love playing on either side of the field because each side has its own benefits,” Said Speranza. “My favorite has to be the left wing because I have more opportunity to take players one v. one and cut the ball in towards the net to get a shot – what player doesn’t like scoring?!”
In her swansong season, it will be her change to try her favorite maneuvers one last time before her eligibility runs out.
“I love to dribble past players and try different cuts and fakes, as well as beat players with my speed,” Said Speranza. “I am the fastest player on the Bisons.”
