Five Bison football players selected to the 2008 CFL Evaluation Camp

Browne, Cooper, Firr, Onofrychuk and Shaw will participate from March 14-16

Five Manitoba Bison football players have been selected to the 2008 CFL Elation Camp held in Toronto from March 14-16. Fourth year defensive back Brady Browne, third year defensive line Justin Cooper, fourth year wide receiver Terry Firr, fourth year linebacker Kenton Onofrychuk and four year defensive lineman Justin Shaw will be part of 54 of Canada's top football prospects that will showcase their skills at the 2008 Canadian Football League Evaluation Camp.

From the CFL release: General managers, head coaches and scouts from all CFL teams will be in attendance evaluating prospects as they prepare for the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft on April 30.

This year's attendees include 48 CIS players and six NCAA players who have qualified as non-imports and have been invited to the 2008 CFL Evaluation Camp by the CFL and its member clubs. The participants include nine defensive backs, nine defensive linemen, eight linebackers, 11 receivers, 10 offensive linemen, five running backs and two quarterbacks.

Five players from the 2007 Vanier Cup champion Manitoba Bisons represent the highest number of participants by any school at this year's Evaluation Camp, followed by the Saskatchewan Huskies with four. 

Bison football head coach Brian Dobie stated, “I am proud that will have the largest representatives from a CIS school at this year's CFL Evaluation Camp. All five have worked extremely hard to attend this camp and show off their skills.”

#2- Justin Shaw (Defensive Lineman): Age 25

In 2007, Justin Shaw played in seven of eight regular season games and registered 16 tackles with four for losses of ten yards. He had one sack and one fumble recovery.
In four playoffs games in 2007, he had 12 tackles and led the team with eight tackles for losses of 62 yards. He also led the Bisons with seven sacks for 60 yards and one forced fumble.


- Posted 8.0 sacks with the Victoria Rebels in 2003
- Finished third in Canada West Conference with 6 sacks in 2004 (12th in CIS)
- Finished second in Canada West Conference with 9 tackles for loss in 2004
- Finished third in Canada West Conference with 6 sacks in 2006 (4th in CIS)

#15- Terry Firr (Wide Receiver): Age 26

In 2007, Terry Firr was second on the team and ninth in conference with 427 receiving yards. He was second on team and tied for tenth with 30 receptions in seven regular season games. Firr added one receiving TD. In four playoffs games in 2007, he led the Bisons in three categories with 13 receptions for 246 yards and three receiving TDs.

- Led the Ontario Football Conference with 16 kickoff returns for 564 yards in 2003
- Finished third in Canada West Conference with 35 receptions in 2005 (15th in CIS)

#39- Kenton Onofrychuk (Linebacker): Age 24

In 2007, Kenton Onofrychuk was third with on the team with 35 tackles in eight regular season games. He has one tackle for loss and had two interceptions for 46 yards (with one returned for a TD) and one breakup. In four playoffs games in 2007, he was third with 20 tackles (one for a seven yard loss) plus one sack, one breakup and one forced fumble.

- 2005-06 Academic All-Canadian
- Had 33 tackles in 2005 Canada West regular season
- Canada West Defensive Player of the Week 09/25/06 vs. Alberta - 7 tackles and 1 interception
- Team Captain in 2007
- Finished 21st in Canada West Conference with 35 tackles in 2007 (40th in CIS)
- Ranked seventh in Bison history for tackles in a career with 119 

#40- Brady Browne (Defensive Back): Age 24

In 2007, Brady Browne earned CIS All-Canadian Second Team status for the first time in his career. He was a Canada West All-Star for the first time in his career. Browne was sixth on team with 24 tackles and tied for second in Canada West with six breakups plus two interceptions. In four playoffs games in 2007, he was sixth with 17 tackles plus two interceptions, one breakup and two fumble recoveries. In addition, he had one TD on a block punt return.

- Posted 40 tackles and 3 interceptions with the Tri-City Bulldogs in 2003
- Had 29 tackles for third best on Bisons in 2006 Canada West regular season
- Tied for the conference lead with three forced fumbles in 2006

#76- Justin Cooper (Defensive Lineman): Age 25

In 2007, Justin Cooper earned CIS All-Canadian First Team status for the first time in his career. The Red Deer, AB native had an outstanding season in 2007 as he was named Canada West Outstanding Lineman of the Year and a conference all-star. Cooper was second in Canada West with seven sacks (fourth in CIS) and tied for second in conference with ten tackles for losses. The third year defensive lineman had 34 tackles during eight regular season games, which was fourth most on the team, and was tied for second most for Canada West ends/lineman. The seven sacks totaled 53 yards and he had two breakups. In four playoffs games in 2007, he was second on team with 21 tackles (five for losses of 16 yards) with three sacks, two breakups and one forced fumble.
