Bisons Dane Pischke and Chris Voth selected to 2012 Team Canada Men's Volleyball National B Team roster

Voth earns his second selection to senior squad; Pischke first selection to national team

After a selection camp at the National Training Centre in Gatineau, Quebec, from May 12 to 15, Volleyball Canada announced its 21-member national B team for the 2012 season. This year's men's team has two Manitoba Bisons current players on the roster – Dane Pischke and Chris Voth.

Pischke, 22, had an amazing season with Manitoba and earns his first selection onto a national squad. Pischke had an amazing year both at conference and CIS level in his fourth year at Manitoba during the 2011-12 season. The Winnipeg native was named the 2011-12 Bison Male Athlete of the Year. In the 2011-12 season, Pischke was CIS First Team All-Canadian and Canada West First Team All-Star at the right side position plus a CIS Championship All-Star. The fourth year Asper School of Business student-athlete was first in CIS with 292 kills plus first in CIS with 337.5 points in the regular season. The 6'6”, 185 lbs. right side hitter earned the best plus/minus among all players at the 2012 CIS Men's Volleyball Championship. In addition, he was tied for 12th with 164 digs and 13th in CIS hitting percentage with .295. The Winnipeg native started and played in all 20 regular season games and also accumulated 65 total blocks, 14 assists and six service aces.

Voth, 21, had another strong season at Manitoba and selected for a second time to senior national team (also was on national youth and junior squad in his career). He earned his first CIS All-Canadian honour and second CIS recognition (2008-09 CIS Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team) in his fourth year at Manitoba in 2011-12. The 6'5”, 185 lbs. left side hitter finished third in CIS with 306.0 points and sixth in CIS with 253 kills in the 2011-12 regular season. In addition, the Kinesiology and Recreation Management student-athlete was tied for 16th in CIS with 18 service aces and 32nd in CIS hitting percentage with .251. The Winnipeg native started and played in all 20 conference regular season games and accumulated 108 digs, 61 total blocks, 20 assists.

“I am very proud of both individuals making the national team,” commented Bison men's volleyball head coach Garth Pischke. “This is a great opportunity for development and to improve their games prior to starting their fifth and final season at Manitoba.”

The team was chosen primarily for the Pan Am Cup set for July 7-15 in the Dominican Republic. The players selected to the team will continue to train in Gatineau from May 16 to July 6. The selection and training camps are held under the supervision of National B Team head coach Larry McKay of Winnipeg.
