The official dedication of the Pat Gill Equipment Room at the David Asper University of Manitoba Football Centre happened on Saturday, September 28. The dedication ceremony occured after the 2013 Homecoming Game.
Pat Gill was instrumental to the Bison Football program in the integral role as team manager from 1967 until his passing at the completion of the 2011 season. He was with the Bisons for an amazing 45 seasons and was part of the three Vanier Cup Championships teams at Manitoba (1969, 1970, 2007).
Bison Football head coach Brian Dobie, in his 18th season, commented, "I am very proud to officially acknowledge Pat's contribution to this program over the last five decades. I have had the unique honor and privilege of both playing and coaching during Pat's time with Bison Football and I know I can say that he stands as the icon of our program. No one loved Bison Football more than Pat. Through the mid-sixties to his passing, he touched and affected the lives of hundreds of players and coaches. I know, I can tell you this…we were all his kids, his family. We will all miss him."
Over the dedicated years of service, it is a safe estimation that Pat Gill has assisted and worked with 5,000+ student-athletes in his role as Bison Football team manager.
The dedication ceremony will have words of welcome to the Bison Football Alumni and to the current team by Dean of Kinesiology and Recreation Management Doug Brown along with remarks from Bison Sports Athletic Director Coleen Dufresne, coach Dobie plus his daughter, and now Bison team manager, Denise Gill with grandson and current Bison defensive lineman Evan Gill.
