Bisons Finish Shoot For The Cure Tournament with 61-47 Win Over UNBC Timberwolves

Herd went 1-2 while UNBC was 0-3 in three day tournament

Box Score WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Manitoba Bisons won a 61-47 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves in pre-season women's basketball action Sunday, October 26 at Investors Group Athletic Centre.
 
Stephanie Gill and Rebecca Potter led the Bisons with nine points each. UNBC's Sarah Robin led the Timberwolves with a total of 14 points, while her teammate Vasiliki Louka scored 12.
 
The Bisons trailed 14-17 at the end of the first quarter, but scored 18 points in the second to lead 32-20 going into the second half.
 
Manitoba opened the third quarter strong and dominated possession throughout the second half, despite letting the Timberwolves slip into bonus in both the third and fourth quarters. The Bisons were also shooting bonus in the fourth, after UNBC committed five team fouls early on in the quarter.
 
The Bisons held on to their lead and went on to win 61-47 despite the Timberwolves sinking 11 of their 16 free throw opportunities in the second half.
 
This was both teams' last game of the University of Manitoba's Shoot For The Cure invitational tournament. The Bisons host Trinity Western in their home opener on Friday, October 31 at Investors Group Athletic Centre at 6:00 p.m. CST. UNBC plays next on Friday, November 7 on the road against Thompson Rivers.
