Volleyball Manitoba Announces 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees

Former Bisons Linda Fredericks (Tataryn) and Terry Gagnon part of inductees

Winnipeg, MB - Volleyball Manitoba is hosting it's annual Awards & Hall of Fame Banquet the evening of June 7, 2014 at the Canad Inns Club Regent Hotel. The banquet serves as an opportunity to celebrate volleyball excellence from our province from the past season, including all Provincial and National Champions, Age Category Players of the Year, Coaches and Referee of the year, Volunteer of the Year, among other awards. As part of the inductee group is former Manitoba Bisons Linda Fredericks (Tataryn) and Terry Gagnon.

In addition to the annual awards, inductions will be made into the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame. The inductees for 2014 include four individuals plus one team who experienced significant success at the national and international levels. This years inductees include the following:

Linda Fredericks (Tataryn)

• 1982 - Prov. AAAA High School champion & MVP with Kildonan East Reivers

• 1983 - Manitoba Canada Games Team

• 1983 - Gold Medal & MVP at 18U Nationals with Wesmen Juveniles

• 1983-84 - CIS first team All-Canadian (rookie year)

• 1983-84 - CIS Gold Medal with University of Winnipeg Wesmen

• 1984 - Member of Junior National Team

• 1984-85 - Member of Senior National Team

• 1985-86 - CIS Silver Medal - University of Manitoba Bisons

Jo-anne Richardson (Onishko)

• 1985 - Prov. AAAA High School champion with Lord Selkirk Royals

• 1986 - Prov. AAAA High School champion & MVP with Lord Selkirk Royals

• 1986 - Member of Junior National Team, competed at Junior NORCECA Championship in Puerto Rico

• 1987 - Gold Medal with Manitoba at Canada Games in Sydney, NS

• 1987 - Member of Junior National Team, competed at Junior World Championship in Seoul, S.Korea 

• 1987-88 - CIS Gold Medal with University of Winnipeg Wesmen

• 1989 - Member of Senior National Team, Canada def. USA @ NORCECA Championship in Puerto Rico, World Cup in Japan

• 1990 - Member of Senior National Team, World Championship in China

Terry Gagnon

• Played volleyball at Acadia Jr. High and Fort Richmond Collegiate

• 1980-83 - 3 Silver CIS Medals with University of Manitoba Bisons

• 1984-85 - 2 consecutive CIS Gold Medals with University of Manitoba Bisons

• Three time CIS All-Canadian and CIS Player of the Year in 1985

• 1985-88 - Member of Senior National Team, narrowly missed qualifying for the Seoul Olympics

• 1989-92 - Member of Senior National Team, qualified for Barcelona Olympics placing 10th

• Played three years professional volleyball in St. Etienne, France and Livorno, Italy

• 1998 - Senior Canadian Championship with Canuckstuff

• 2005 - World Masters Games Championship

John Paulsen

• 1965-69 - Played volleyball and other sports at Kelvin High School

• 1969 - High School City and Provincial Champions with Kelvin High School

• 1971-74 - 3 consecutive CIS Gold Medals with University of Winnipeg Wesmen

• 1971-78 - Member of Senior National Team, represented Canada at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal plus world championships, World Cup, NORCECA Championships

• 1978-79 - Member of Winnipeg Volleyball Club, twice Manitoba Provincial Champions, 1979 Senior National Champions

• 1978-79 - Head Coach, Red River College (Winnipeg)

• 1981 - Head Coach, University of Calgary - CIS Champions

• 1999-2014 - Still plays volleyball and represents Canada at US Open Championships and World Masters Games

• 2007 - Inducted into Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame

• 2010 & 2011 - American First All-Star Team - US Open Championship

1971-1974 University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Volleyball Teams

• Four consecutive national championships
