Box Score Calgary – The Manitoba Bisons women's soccer earned a split of their series with the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday, September 27 night defeating the Cougars 3-1 at MRU Stadium Field. Rookie sensation Bruna Mavignier scored twice to push the Bisons past Mount Royal.
With the road win, Manitoba improves to 3-3 in the 2014 campaign and sixth in Prairie Division while Mount Royal drops to 2-5-1 and seventh in the division.
Manitoba opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Bruna Mavignier scored her fourth of the season on a low hard shot. Five minutes later, Mavignier was at it again, beating Meghan Prudhomme low on the far side for her second of the game.
Karlee Hodl got one back for MRU in the 33rd minute to get Mount Royal within one.
The Bisons answered less than three minutes later when co-captain Sarah Haiko buried her second of the year to restore the two-goal advantage.
An uneventful second half kept the score in tact and the Bisons took the game 3-1, leaving Calgary with a split.
The Cougars will head home to host MacEwan for a two game set next weekend starting on Friday October 3. Manitoba will also head back to their home pitch where they will welcome the Alberta Pandas on Oct. 3-4 weekend with both matches played at 6 p.m. CT at the Turf Fields at U of Manitoba campus.
