The Bison women's soccer team finishes their conference regular season in fourth place in the East Region of the Canada West conference and qualified for the regional playoffs as they travel to play at the Grant MacEwan Griffins on Friday, October 30 with first kick at 3 p.m. CT.
This is the first time Manitoba is in the post-season since 2012 and only the fourth time they have reached the playoffs in the 11 year program's history playing in Canada West.
The Bisons (7-5-2) will face third place Grant MacEwan (7-4-3) for the second time in the 2015 season. Both teams met in the conference regular season at Grant MacEwan and the result was a 2-2 tie on Sat., Sept. 19 in week three action.
The winner of the one match playoff will advance to the Canada West women's soccer Select Six tournament that will be hosted by the highest remaining East Region team and run from November 5-8.
Manitoba has had a fantastic season so far in 2015 as they surpassed their record from last season (4-4-4) and tied for the second highest total of team wins in a season during the program's history. In addition, they scored 22 goals, which is the best since 2009 season when the Herd notched 27 in a season.
The Bisons went 4-2-1 at home and 3-3-1 on the road during the 2015 campaign.
In 2015 stats, the Herd had numerous players among the leaders in conference stats. Fifth year midfielder Megan Graca and second year Bruna Mavignier (out now for the season due to injury) tied for 14th in Canada West scoring with eight points. Graca was tied for fifth with six conference assists and tenth in shots on goal with 20 while Mavignier was tied for fifth with six conference goals.
Rookie goalkeeper Madison Wilford was second with .872 Save Pct., tied for sixth with four shutouts in Canada West, tied for fifth with 75 conference saves and eighth with 1.27 Goals Against Average. Ten different Bisons scored in 2015 and Manitoba amassed 24 goals in this season, for second best in the East Region.
