Bison women’s soccer sits atop East Region with 3-1-2 record and host Calgary on Sat., Sept. 26 and Lethbridge on Sun., Sept. 27 weekend

Both games played at 2 p.m. CT at the Turf Fields – West Side at U of Manitoba campus

The Bison women's soccer team continues their impressive start to the 2015 Canada West regular season as they sit atop the East Region with a 3-1-2 record after six conference games. 

The Bisons will now host the Calgary Dinos (3-1-0) on Saturday, September 26 and the Lethbridge Pronghorns (2-1-1) on Sunday, September 27. Both games will start at 2 p.m. CT and held at the Turf Fields – West Side at the U of Manitoba campus.

The East Region standings are tight after three weeks of conference action. The top three positions are only separated by two points with several other teams in the mix with games on hand against Manitoba. There is a new format for qualifying for post-season in Canada West for women's soccer in 2015. Top 6 in each of the two regions will qualify for the playoffs. There is now 14 regular season games played as opposed to 12 in the 2014 campaign.

So far in 2015, the Herd have numerous players among the leaders in conference stats.  Second year forward Bruna Mavignier leads Canada West in scoring and goals with six goals and eight points plus first in shots on goal with 15 and tied for first with two game-winning goals. Fifth year midfielder Megan Graca is tied for first with three conference assists and tied for fourth in scoring with four points. In the nets, Rookie Madison Wilford is tied for third with 1.00 Goals Against Average while fourth with .833 Save Pct. and fifth year goalkeeper Chloe Werle is sixth with .824 Save Pct. while tied for fourth with one shutout and fifth in Canada West with 28 saves..

Last season, Manitoba won (W 3-2 on Oct. 11/14 at home) and tied against Calgary (T 1-1 on Oct. 10/14 at home) plus had two ties versus Lethbridge (T 0-0 on Oct. 18/14 on the road and T 1-1 on Oct. 19/14 on the road).

Bison Notes: The Bison women's soccer team, in partnership with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, makes history during the 2015 Canada West season as Manitoba will play a first-ever game at Investors Group Field on Friday, October 9 at 6 p.m. CT versus the Winnipeg Wesmen. Tickets for this special event will be available on Ticketmaster.ca for $10 plus fees (children 12 and under are free if they are accompanied by at least one paying adult).
