The Bison women's hockey team is pleased to announce the team captains for the 2015-16 season. Manitoba will have a young team with a veteran presence. Defencemen Lindsay Blight, Caitlin Fyten and Erica Rieder plus forward Kayleigh Wiens have been named as alternate captains for the upcoming season.
"All four players bring commitment to the program and hard work ethic with positive attitude," stated Bison women's hockey head coach Jon Rempel, in his 12th season at the helm. "Lindsay returns from an season-ending injury for her fifth year while Kayleigh continues to give maximum effort every night. Caitlin leads by example and Erica is another leader on and off the ice. All four will be great representatives for the Bisons."
Blight, 22, wears the 'A' for the second time (last year she was a rotating alternate captain) with the Bisons in her fifth year. The 5'6" blueliner played in all 28 Canada West regular season games with three assists and +5 plus/minus rating in 2014-15. In four seasons at Manitoba, the Portage la Prairie, MB native has played in 98 conference regular season games with one goal and seven assists.
Wiens, 21, is in her fifth year and second season as captain after being an rotating alternate in 2014-15 with the Bisons. The 5'5" forward notched five points (2g, 3a) while playing in 27 Canada West regular season in 2014-15. In four seasons at Manitoba, the Winkler, MB native has played in 103 conference regular season games and produced nine goals and nine assists.
Fyten, 20, is a first time captain in her third year at Manitoba. The 5'7" defenceman accumulated nine points (3g, 6a), good for tie for eighth in team scoring, with a +3 plus/minus rating in all 28 conference regular season games in 2014-15. In two seasons at Manitoba, the Cremora, AB native has scored 17 points (4g, 13a) in 56 conference regular season games.
Rieder, 19, dons the 'A' for the first time with the Bisons in her second year. The 5'9" defenceman was named on the 2014-15 Canada West All-Rookie Team after being eighth in conference rookie scoring with 11 points (four goals and seven assists) and tied for 11th in conference defenceman scoring while playing in 27 of 28 conference regular season games. The Regina native had two multi-point games with one game with three points and also finished on the team with a fifth best +10 rating.
