CALGARY- The University of Calgary Dinos defeated the University of Manitoba Bisons, 4-2, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 6 at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.

With road loss, Manitoba drops to 12-12-0-2 record and 38 points and reamins in fifth place while Calgary improves to 7-12-3-4 and 31 points and eight place with six making the playoffs with one week left of Canada West regular season in the 2015-16 season.

The Dinos took no chances for granted Saturday afternoon, capitalizing on two power plays in the first period.

The Russian duo of Sash Vafina and Iya Gavrilova were at it again, proving why they lead the conference in scoring. On the power play, Gavrilova fed Vafina the puck in the slot who made the easy redirect to claim her 13th on the season. Stephanie Zvonkovic picked up a helper on the play.

Calgary continued to find success on the power play late in the period. Off of a faceoff to the right of Rachel Dyck, Heather Berzins won the draw back to Kelsey Lang who dished the puck across the blue line for Zvonkovic to fire into the back of the net.

As the Bisons continued to make a trail to the penalty box the Dinos continued to score on the power play. Vafina put a low wrist shot on net, Delaney Frey picked up the rebound and passed to Megan Grenon who had snuck in backdoor from the point to increase the Dinos lead to three.

Calgary began to run into some penalty trouble of their own midway through the middle stanza. Manitoba took advantage of the extra attacker and decreased the Dinos lead. Erica Rieder streaked in the far boards of the Dinos zone before passing the puck out front to Courtlyn Oswald, with a scramble in front of Dinos' Hayley Dowling, Kayleigh Wiens scored for her fourth of the season.

On a delayed penalty, the Dinos got a sixth skater on the ice before the Bisons could gain possession of the puck. The Dinos extra attacker would pay off as Kate Lumley redirected Gavrilova's pass from the corner to increase the Dinos lead to 4-1.

Manitoba would cut the Dinos lead to two at the end of the second period. Lauryn Keen passed the puck from behind the Dinos net to Rieder who dropped down from the point for her second point of the game.

The Bisons attempted to come back from being down two goals in the third period but could not find the back of the Dinos net.

Calgary will play a home-and-home series against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns next weekend. The Dinos will be on the road Friday evening before playing Saturday at home, puck is set to drop at 6 p.m. at the Father David Bauer Arena. Manitoba will host the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds next weekend, Feb. 12-13.
