Bison offensive lineman Zack Williams part of gold medal winning Canada Junior National Team that won 24-6 over Team USA at '16 IFAF U19 World Championship played in Harbin, China

Williams was part of 38 players that represented Canada as they dethroned defending gold medalist, Team USA

From Football Canada: Canada's Junior National Team defeated the United States 24-6 in the gold medal game at the 2016 IFAF U19 World Championship in Harbin, China on July 10. Bison offensive lineman Zack Williams was part of gold medal winning Canada Junior National Team.

Williams, 19, was one of 38 players selected to be on the National Team roster for this prestigious event and played in the gold medal game and throughout the championship.


Williams commented after the championship, "China was a great experience and time for me. I got to see and experience a once-in-a lifetime opportunity. It felt great to go play for my country and represent it, along for my hometown, as I was the only player from Manitoba. So, I felt really proud to represent Canada, my province, school, team, coaches, family and my name as an individual.

Canada and the U.S. have faced one another in each of the first four U19 World Championship finals.

With a victory in the latest installment, Canada has evened up its U19 World Championship finals record at two wins and two losses. Canada previous captured gold at the 2012 worlds in Austin, Texas to go along with a pair of silver medals from the inaugural 2009 event in Canton, Ohio as well as the 2014 edition in Kuwait.

Williams finished his first season at Manitoba and the 6'6", 285 lbs. O-lineman was on the Bison roster and played in all eight conference during the 2015 Canada West conference season. The Winnipeg native also played in the one playoff contest with the Bisons and previously played high school at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate. Earlier in January 2016, Williams was also selected and part of the 2016 U19 Canadian national team that played at the International Bowl against the U.S. national team at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Canada's Junior National Football Team results at 2016 IFAF U19 World Championship in Harbin, China:
June 30: Canada 30 Mexico 16
July 3: USA 32 Canada 14
July 7: Canada 28 Mexico 21
July 10 – Championship Game: Canada 24 USA 6

The IFAF U19 World Championships are held every two years since 2012 and Canada will enter the 2018 event as the defending champions.
