WINNIPEG – The No. 1 University of Manitoba Bisons finished their regular season atop of Canada West women's hockey standings, and extended their win streak to nine games after beating the Calgary Dinos 1-0 on Saturday, February 10 at the Wayne Fleming Arena.

With the Dinos loss, they finish the season with a record of 7-18-1-2, and will not be moving forward into the playoffs. The home team completed the 2017-18 regular season with a record of 19-5-3-1, and will begin the playoffs in two weeks as they host one of the CW Semi Finals best-of-three series.

Bisons goalie Rachel Dyck picked up her 15th career shutout, and fifth of the season, in her final career regular season game with the Herd.

"It was a tighter game than yesterday, but I felt good in the net and wanted to end on a high note so yeah, it was pretty cool," said Dyck.

Bisons head coach Jon Rempel was proud of his players, and the effort he saw on the ice. "I thought we stuck with it, we were very consistent over three periods. Their goaltender was very good today but we stuck with it and didn't deviate from the game plan, which I thought was very good," said Rempel.

The home team scored the only goal of the game halfway through the third, when Jordyn Zacharias was able to fire a shot past Dinos netminder Kelsey Roberts after a nifty pass by teammate Alanna Sharman on a 2-on-1.

In the middle frame both teams remained scoreless. The Dinos were able to move the puck past the neutral zone and into the Manitoba end during the final five minutes of the period, but Dyck was able to put a kibosh on all incoming shots. After two periods, the hosts were leading 29-6 in shots.

The Bisons dominated the first period with their aggressive play, spending a lot of time in visitor territory.

Early in the first, the Herd fired a shot past the pads of Roberts in a rebound attempt, but the goal was called off. With seven minutes left, there was a turnover in front of the Dinos net. Despite multiple pokes at the puck, no Bisons player was able to get it past the goal pads of Roberts.

Roberts' tremendous play throughout the first period was one of the reasons both teams remained scoreless heading into the second.

With their loss, the Dinos played their last game of the season. The Bisons now have a first round bye and will await the lowest remaining seed in the conference semi-final at Wayne Fleming Arena from Feb. 23-25.
