REGINAÂ - An overtime goal by Keaton Jameson two minutes into the extra session gave the Manitoba Bisons a 4-3 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.
Manitoba's game-winning goal came with the Bisons on a power play and immediately following a nice Curtis Meger glove save on Manitoba captain Adam Henry's shot from the slot. Jameson pounced on the rebound and backhanded it home for the winner.
But the game was only in overtime because of some late heroics by Cougar captain Tristan Frei. With only seconds left in regulation and the Cougars on a 6-on-4 with an extra attacker and a Manitoba player in the penalty box, Frei took a snap shot from the high slot that beat Manitoba goalie Riley Lamb to tie it up at the 19:59 mark.
James Hilsendager and Ben Duperreault also scored for Regina, while Manitoba's three regulation goals were notched by Sean Christensen, Dylan Thiessen, and Jonah Wasylak. The Bisons led 3-1 into the latter stages of the third period, but Duperreault scored with just under three minutes to go to get the Cougars to within one.
Lamb made 25 saves to help Manitoba improve to 5-4-0 on the season. The Bisons were 2-for-5 on the power play, while Frei's goal was the lone Regina goal on four opportunities with the man advantage.
Meger stopped 17 shots for the Cougars, including two in overtime.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon (3:00) at The Co-operators Centre.
