The 2018-19 Canada West women's volleyball all-star and all-rookie teams were announced by the conference on Tuesday, with Bison fifth-year libero Cassie Bujan being selected as a Second Team All-Star.
This is the first all-star selection for Bujan in her Bisons career and the second consecutive season that a Bison women's volleyball player has been named a conference All-Star (Kearley Abbott – Second Team – 2017-18).
Bujan, 22, showed outstanding libero play in her fifth and final season with the Manitoba Bisons. The Anola, MB native broke two Canada West season records during the 2018-19 campaign — most digs (448) and most digs per set (4.87) — the latter breaking a 12-year-old record set by Trinity Western Spartans alumna Julie Blackburn.
Bujan showed durability as well, playing and starting all 24 matches for the Herd. Rounding out her season's statistics were 56 assists and a lone kill.
"Cassie has had an outstanding fifth and final year with Manitoba," commented Bison women's volleyball coach Ken Bentley. "She found yet another level in her play after an outstanding fourth year and this speaks volumes for her work ethic."
"She has left an indelible mark on our program and it has been an absolute pleasure to have the privilege to coach her over these past five years."
