REGINA, Sask. - Jessica's Tsai's goal in extra time helped the Manitoba Bisons to a 2-1 victory over the University of Regina women's soccer team at the U of R Field on Saturday afternoon.
A corner kick from Tsai came after some extended Manitoba pressure, and the ball curled inside the close post and trickled across the goal line after being misplayed by a Cougar defender.
Dalima Chhibber had a first-half goal for the Bisons, who move to 4-3-0 with the win. The Cougars got a marker from Kirsten Finley as they fall to 1-4-2.
The first goal of the match came in the 26th minute, as Chhibber was in the right spot to clean up a loose ball after a corner kick from Tsai. Stefanie Young got the first touch on the cross into the box, and Chhibber ended up putting it home for the first goal of her Canada West career.
An answer by the Cougars came early in the second half thanks to Finley. A Cougar corner from Taylor Bubnick was headed by Amou Madol but blocked by a Bison defender. Finley was there for the rebound, heading the ball into the back of the net before Karina Bagi could get to it.
Kylie Bolton had a busy afternoon in goal, making 10 saves for the Cougars. Bagi stopped three shots for Manitoba.
The Cougars will be at home again on Sunday, playing host to the Winnipeg Wesmen with a noon kickoff. Manitoba will head to Saskatoon to visit the Saskatchewan Huskies.
