Desiree Scott the first Bison to be named into Canada West Hall of Fame

Former Manitoba Bisons women's soccer standout latest inductee.

Standout women's soccer player Desiree Scott is headed to the Canada West Hall of Fame. The Winnipeg native is the first Bisons alum to be inducted and is one of the first 100 inductees across the conference, as Canada West celebrates its 100th anniversary.



One of the leaders of Canada Soccer's powerhouse women's national team, Desiree Scott's path to the highest levels of soccer can be traced through Manitoba.

Before making her debut with the Canadian national senior team in 2010, the Winnipeg native had an illustrious five-year Canada West career playing midfield for the Bisons.

The 2009-10 Bison Sports Female Athlete of the Year, Scott was a four-time Canada West All-Star (First Team in 2008 and 2009; Second Team in 2005 and 2006), and was the Canada West Rookie of the Year in 2005. She was also named a CIS First Team All-Canadian in 2008 and 2009.

While at Manitoba, Scott set program records for the most career points (56) and assists (31) in 64 games played, while being voted team MVP three times (2005, 2006 and 2009).

Scott was also part of the Bisons women's soccer coaching staff during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2017, she was the University of Manitoba's Distinguished Alumni Award recipient for Outstanding Young Alumni.

As of 2019, Scott had earned nearly 150 caps for the Canadian senior team, starting more than 100 of those matches. She was part of Canada's bronze-winning Olympic teams in both 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio) and represented her country at the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 (Canada) and 2019 (France).

Professionally, Scott has played 92 games in the National Women's Soccer League for Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2006, 2010-12), FC Kansas City (2010, 2016-17), and Utah Royals FC (2018). She also played with Notts County in the FA WSL in 2014-15, making 20 appearances.

Off the field, Scott is an athlete ambassador for KidSport Winnipeg, working to remove financial barriers to playing sport and has also been an ambassador for the Homeless World Cup since 2014.
