Jadyn Kushniruk and
Hannah Pennell scored the only two goals of the game for the University of Regina's women's hockey team just a minute and a half apart in the second, but that was all the Cougars needed as they won 2-1 over Manitoba on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre. With the win, the Cougars improved to 3-13-1 while Manitoba fell to 7-10.
After a scoreless opening frame, Kushniruk got the Cougars on the board with a shot from the slot off a 1-on-2 rush eight minutes into the second. Just 1:21 later, Pennell scored from the slot on the power play with plenty of traffic in front of Manitoba goalie
Emily Shippam. Pennell's goal was her team-leading fifth of the campaign.
Manitoba's
Jena Barscello scored for the Bisons three minutes into the third to make it 2-1, but goalie
Arden Kliewer and the U of R defence closed the door from there. Kliewer made 11 of her 22 saves in the third period alone to help seal the win.
