In a playoff spot entering this weekend, the Bisons women's hockey team welcomes Calgary to town, having won five of their last six games.
The Herd are in a playoff spot, with six wins and 13 points in Canada West's East Division. Meanwhile, Calgary has 14 points and six wins, but enter play outside of the post-season conversation, with Trinity Western, Mount Royal and UBC all ahead of them in the West Division.
The Herd have won three of their last four games against Calgary, most recently a 1-0 win on the road during the 2023-24 season. Captain
Kylie Lesuk scored the game-winner, and enters this weekend on the back of a two-assist game in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in overtime against Mount Royal last Saturday.
Lesuk assisted on the game-tying goal in the final nine seconds against MRU, getting the puck on net, which was eventually tapped in by
Aimee Patrick for her third goal and sixth point of the season, both second on the team.
In overtime, Lesuk was a one-woman show.
She stole the puck following a face-off, and got a solid shot on net from in close. She then collected the rebound, skated to a favourable position in front and found
Dana Goertzen on a tap-in from in close for the winner. Lesuk and Goertzen enter play tied for fourth on the team, with four points.
Overall, 19 different Bisons have recorded a point this season in a balanced showing, led by
Norah Collins' six goals and seven points. The former of those is third in Canada West, and she has four goals in her last six games, including Manitoba's first tally last Saturday during their comeback against Mount Royal.
Defensively, Manitoba is third in Canada West, giving up just 19 goals in ten games. They also have the East Division's best power play, at 19.4 percent.
The Dinos have also had success by committee this season. In total, 20 different players have a point this year, led by foward Brooklyn Anderson's ten. She's also second in Canada West, with eight goals. Hannah Reagh, a first-year Manitoba product who played for Yellowhead, is one of the other 19 players with a point, having scored her first career U SPORTS goal against Regina on November 8th.
