There's lots on the line this weekend at Wayne Fleming Arena, as the Manitoba Bisons host the Regina Cougars. A series sweep for the 12-win Bisons would secure them a home playoff series from February 21-23. It's easier said than done against a Regina team (22 points) that's won three of four contests against the Herd this season and trail them by just four points in the standings.
The prairie rivals both boast extremely versatile rosters. Nineteen different players have a point on the year for Regina, while 21 different athletes have a point for the Bisons. Five Bisons also scored during Manitoba's first four games against Regina.
With five points since the new year, forward
Aimee Patrick has been surging for the hosts. The veteran's 18 points are a career high and are tied for eighth in Canada West, while her line of the 'Skelrods' (
Brenna Nicol and
Sadie Keller) have posted eight combined points since the new year.
Meanwhile, forward
Norah Collins' nine goals are tied for the fourth-most in Canada West.
Both teams have posted shutouts against each other this season, 2-0 in each respective victory. Natalie Williamson, whose .946 save percentage is second in Canada West, earned her second clean sheet of her career in the Cougars' victory on October 19.
Emily Shippam -- who has a career-high 310 saves on the year -- answered back on December 6 with a career-high 18 saves.
