REGINA -- Bisons offensive lineman
Matt Stokman capped his U SPORTS career in style this evening, earning First Team All-Canadian recognition.
A five-year starter for the Herd and a CFL Draft pick of the Calgary Stampeders, Stokman helped the Herd to a Canada West-leading 1,486 rushing yards in 2025. The Vincent Massey product started at left and right tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2021, and didn't miss a start over the next four years at the right guard position. In 2024, he was an integral piece of a Bisons offensive line that helped pave the way for a school record 2,016 rushing yards on the ground.Â
"I want to congratulate Matt on this well deserved honor," said Bisons head coach
Stan Pierre. "He has been an outstanding example of what it means to be a Bison during his five years here. This recognition is a culmination of Matt's perseverance and dedication both on and off the field."
During Stokman's tenure, high school teammates
Jackson Tachinski and
Breydon Stubbs achieved notable career milestones. Last season, Stubbs set a single-season school record for rushing touchdowns, with 14, and he graduated with 24 career regular season rushing touchdowns, second overall in school history. Fellow senior Tachinski also amassed 24 majors, the most by a Bisons quarterback in school history, while his 1,676 regular season rushing yards stand as the most by any Bisons pivot.Â
This is the seventh year in a row that the Bisons football program has had a student-athlete recognized as an All-Canadian, and the third year in a row that a Bisons offensive lineman has been recognized as an All-Canadian. Since 1969, Manitoba has had a combined 103 First and Second Team All-Canadians.
