Women's hockey announce 2025-26 recruiting class

Seven standout athletes from across the prairies represent the group.

The future of Bisons women's hockey is bright, as interim head coach Jordy Zacharias announced the program's recruiting class for the 2025-26 season. Seven standout athletes from across the prairies make up the class, including four forwards, two defenceman and one goalie. 

Sara Harbus is a 5'10" forward from Regina, Saskatchewan. She was the 2022-23 MVP for the Notre Dame Hounds, and is an honour roll student at Athol Murray College. Over the last two seasons playing for Notre Dame's AAA team, she's recorded 23 points. 

Shayna Bannister is a 5'8" forward from Manitou, Manitoba. The honour roll student has recorded 33 points over the last two prep seasons for Pilot Mound and Balmoral Hall. She also represented Team Manitoba in 2024. 

Sophia Heidinger is a 5'3" forward from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the Eastman Selects Rookie of the Year in 2022-23, as well as an assistant captain for the Selects in 2024-25. The honour roll student represented Team Manitoba in 2024, and was also an all-star as a defender at nationals for Manitoba's U16 ball hockey team. Bannister earned MVP honours the following year as a forward. 

Izzy Mann is a 5'2" forward from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The cousin of Bisons captain Kylie Lesuk, Mann holds the Winnipeg Ice's all-time record for career assists, with 93, and is second in career points, with 156. The multiple-time captain and Athlete of the Year is an honour roll student, as well as a national champion in soccer and a provincial champion in cross country. 

Julianna de Groot is a 5'6" defenceman from Winnipeg, Manitoba. An assistant captain and Most Improved Player for Balmoral Hall, the honour roll student tallied three goals and 14 assists during the 2024-25 season. 

Claire Moorman is a 5'9" defenceman from Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan. She was an assistant captain for Team Saskatchewan (2024), as well as the Saskatoon Stars (2025), and has been on the honour roll all through high school. She's tallied 36 points over the last three years for the Stars, and her current coach is former Bisons national champion Alana Serhan. 

Jenna Goertzen is a 5'8" goalie from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the Manitoba Female Hockey League Goalie of the Year and a First Team All-Star in 2022 with the Winnipeg Avros (.943 save percentage, 1.41 goals against average) and played for the OUA's Carleton Ravens in 2023-24. Goertzen also won a gold medal in 2022 at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship, and earned silver in 2023. She is the sister for current Bisons forward Dana Goertzen. 

"We are thrilled to welcome this exceptional class for the 2025-2026 season, joining a strong and experienced returning group," said Zacharias. 

"Each athlete brings a unique skill set that will play a vital role in enhancing our team's success. In addition to their high-level abilities on the ice, we are fortunate to add an incredible group of individuals who will further enrich our program's culture."
