Bisons pick up six points on day two of track and field nationals

Making their U SPORTS National Championship debuts, Noah Curtis and Nevaeh Marynowski picked up two, and one point, respectively in the 300m and long jump, while the men's 4x800 team earned three points. Rookie thrower Ella Farquharson also had a strong showing in shotput.

WINNIPEG -- A variety of Bisons made noise in their debut at U SPORTS track and field nationals, highlighting a strong day two of results for Manitoba.

In the men's 300m, sophomore Noah Curtis -- also on the men's 4x200 relay team that will race in the final tomorrow at 2:25 pm -- picked up two points, qualifying for the final, where he placed seventh in the country in a time of 34.53 seconds. Meanwhile, fellow sophomore Nevaeh Marynowsi secured a point in the long jump for Manitoba on the women's side, finishing eighth in the country with a top jump of 5.76m on her second attempt.

In the shotput, rookie Ella Farquharson finished ninth in the country, with a top throw of 12.45m, and to close out the day, the men's 4x800 relay team finished sixth in 7:36.41.

Noah Fillion -- who will compete individually in the 1500m tomorrow -- led off for Manitoba, followed by Hayes McMillan, Jonah Leppelmann and Alejandro Civetta. There was a strong group of four that surged into the lead back, but the Herd were in the hunt throughout. Civetta -- ranked No. 1 entering the men's 600m final tomorrow -- had a strong kick in the anchor leg to help the Bisons to sixth.

It's a busy day for Manitoba tomorrow. The hosts compete in eight different events overall, and have a strong chance for top three finishes in a variety of them. Along with Civetta and Fillion, No. 1 nationally ranked Lara Denbow and Daxx Turner from Neepawa will aim to secure gold at home for the second time, after each accomplished the feat in 2024.

Denbow is the back-to-back high jump champ, and will compete at 2:30 pm, the same time as Turner in the triple jump. Turner's teammate Adebare Adegbosin is ranked third in the triple. He and Turner are aiming to become the first Bisons triple jumpers to each land on the podium at nationals in the same year.

Manitoba's 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams also both compete tomorrow. The action kicks off at 12:30 pm. Click here for the schedule and here for tickets.
