Bisons football travels to play in Hardy Cup this Saturday

The Manitoba Bisons will be playing for a Hardy Cup this Saturday, November 20 as they visit Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies.

The winner earns bragging rights as Canada West's top football team for the 2021 season and advances to compete in the national semi-final, the Uteck Bowl, against the best team from Quebec (RSEQ).

The game can be streamed pay-per-view on Canada West TV presented by Co-op or you can watch with Bisons fan at the Wayne Fleming Arena. Doors open at 12:45 p.m., kick-off is 1 p.m. Proof of vaccination is required. Entry after 2 p.m will require a mobile ticket from Showpass.

Coming into this past weekend, the Bisons were ranked No. 7 in the nation and the Huskies were ranked No. 4, making this a true heavyweight matchup in the 84th edition of the Hardy Cup. Manitoba last won the Cup the last time they played in the game — in 2014, a 27-15 win over Calgary.

This season, they'll go up against a team who has been there each of the last two years. The Huskies beat the Bisons at IG Field 41-12 on October 30, but history has shown this season that any team can beat any other in the Canada West conference.

The Bisons have reason to be confident too after a 43-17 win over the Alberta Golden Bears in snowy conditions this past weekend, a game they dominated on both sides of the ball. Manitoba's offence rushed for 264 yards on the slick turf, while holding Alberta to just 40 yards and five first downs in the first half.

On campus, Bisons men's hockey take centre stage as they host the Mount Royal Cougars. The two teams compete first on Friday, November 19 at 7 p.m. then again on Saturday, November 20 at 3 p.m.

Fans can purchase hockey tickets on Showpass. Both games can be listened to on UMFM 101.5.

The Bisons men will be looking to snap a heart-wrenching six-game losing streak. All but two of the losses over that span have been by just one goal, as the Herd are on the doorstep of putting some momentum together late in the first half of the season.

So far this season, the Bisons have been led by forward Brett Davis — who has four goals and three assists on the year, including two markers this past weekend in Regina.
