For the first time since 2013, a Canada West football semi-final will be played on Manitoba Bisons home turf.

Yes, after a win this past weekend over the Regina Rams, the No. 2 seed Bisons will host the No. 3 seed Alberta Golden Bears in one of two Hardy Cup semi-finals on Saturday, November 13. The game kicks off at 4 p.m. at IG Field. The winner moves on to play in the Hardy Cup, a battle between the top two football programs in Western Canada.

As it was for regular season Bisons games, UM students will be able to get into the playoff game for free but must claim mobile tickets for entry. Other game day protocols will be in place, with fans able to purchase their tickets starting today on Ticketmaster.

The Bisons and Golden Bears met earlier this season in Edmonton, a game Manitoba came back to win 31-17. Starting quarterback Jackson Tachinski had three touchdown passes in that matchup, his best outing of the season, and connected with receiver Gavin Cobb for two of them. Cobb also had a 91-yard kick return touchdown and was named the U SPORTS Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance.

Dating back to the 2013 season, the Bisons have won seven of their last ten games against Alberta. The two squads have met in the playoffs only once, a Golden Bears win way back in 2005.

Bisons basketball also at home this weekend

Fresh off their home opener weekend at Investors Group Athletic Centre, Bisons men's and women's basketball are in action again on November 12 and 13.

Hosting the Regina Cougars, the Bisons women take the court at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 12 with the men following at 8 p.m. On Saturday, November 13, the women start at 5 p.m. and the men follow at 7 p.m.

The Bisons men were particularly impressive during their opening weekend against cross-town rival Winnipeg. James Wagner hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds left in the team's home opener on Friday, handing Manitoba the win. They followed it up with a seven-point victory on Saturday and come into this weekend 2-0.
