For the third time in the last five seasons, a Bisons women's hockey member has been named to the Canada West All-Rookie team. This season, freshman goalie
Paige Fischer earned the nod after going 5-3, with 232 saves, two shutouts and a 1.75 GAA.
Her goals against average was seventh-best in Canada West, while her two shutouts ranked fifth.Â
Fischer, a Rosetown, SK native, earned shutouts in two of her first three games in Bisons colours. She stopped all 17 shots she faced in back-to-back weekends against MacEwan and Saskatchewan to earn the clean sheets.Â
Fischer stopped a career-high 28 shots against Regina on December 7th, one of four different games where she recorded over 20 saves.Â
"Paige stepped up in a big way this season, playing 11 games in her first year. She is the type of player who embraces pressure and remains confident in big games, which is incredible to see in a first year goalie at our level," said Bisons interim head coach
Jordy Zacharias.Â
"She brings a high level of compete and calmness which brought her much success this season."
