Bisons women's volleyball adds multisport standout Annelouise Gie to 2027 recruiting class

The Bisons women's volleyball team continued to add to its future talent pool this week, announcing the commitment of 6'0" outside hitter Annelouise Gie to the program. Hailing from Baldur, Man., Gie joins the Herd after establishing herself as a standout athlete in both volleyball and track and field.

Gie has competed at the high school and club levels throughout Manitoba, suiting up for the Baldur/Cartwright Cougars from 2023-24 before joining the Prairie Mountain Predators in 2025-26. On the club side, she played for Westman Volleyball Club from 2024-26 and will compete with the Junior Bisons Volleyball Club in 2027.

The accolades continued to pile up for Gie in 2026. At just 16 years old, she earned the Maple Award while representing Team Manitoba Red at the 18U Canada Cup, competing against some of the top older athletes in the country.

"We are thrilled to have Annelouise join us for the 2027 season," said head coach Ken Bentley. "Athletically Annelouise can compete at the top level in Canada West. What attracted our coaching staff the most however is her maturity, her poise, and her focus on the highest of goals for her academics and athletics."

"We have full confidence that she will do whatever it takes to reach those goals and her vibe fits our program perfectly."

That drive extends beyond the volleyball court. A versatile multisport athlete, Gie has also excelled in track and field. She captured silver medals in both javelin and triple jump at the 2026 provincial championships and was named Zone 6 Track Star of the Meet for three consecutive years from 2024-26.

The Prairie Mountain High School student has matched her athletic success in the classroom as well, earning Honour Roll recognition every year from 2023-26.

"Ever since I watched my first Bisons women's volleyball game, I knew I wanted to be a part of the community," said Gie. "I have seen the amazing developmental skills of the program, and I am so grateful to get to experience it first hand.
"I look forward to this new, exciting challenge, and I am endlessly thankful for this incredible opportunity."
