After a sensational freshman season, Bisons point guard
Taylor Schepp has been named to the Canada West All-Rookie team. The Winnipeg native was the only Bison to start all 20 regular season conference games for Manitoba, leading the way in a variety of categories while helping the Herd reach the playoffs, with their best overall record since 2019-20.Â
A Dakota Collegiate grad, Schepp led Manitoba in points per game (12), and minutes per game (30.2), helping the Herd to draw high-value offence. Her advanced offensive pressure and efficiency led to number of shooting fouls against the opposition, at a rate of 11.1 percent. She also converted on 82.2 percent of her chances from the free throw line.Â
Schepp scored a career-high 22 points against MacEwan on January 23, playing in 38 of a possible 40 minutes. It was one of six different games where Schepp logged over 35 minutes, her per season-best coming in a 39-minute effort versus Winnipeg on January 31, a 76-61 win in the annual Duckworth Challenge.Â
Schepp becomes the tenth All-Rookie selection overall for the program, and 40th player overall earn some form of conference recognition.
"Congrats to Taylor on her Canada West All-Rookie Team recognition. Her consistency this season was no accident -- she put in purposeful work behind the scenes to be ready for the transition from high school to university," said Bisons head coach
Michele Sung.Â
"As a first-year student-athlete, she embraced the process, stayed coachable and elevated our team play every day. We are excited to see what level she gets to next."
