Men's Basketball Press Release

Bisons add "veteran presence in the paint" in forward Segun Akinbulumo

The Winnipeg native returns home after an impactful U SPORTS career at Windsor, where he broke the school record for field goal percentage.

The Bisons men's basketball team announced today the commitment of 6'7", 245-pound Winnipeg product Segun Akinbulumo. An impact forward, the U SPORTS veteran returns home at a key time, helping to bolster Manitoba's depth in the paint following the graduation of starter Cieran O'Hara.

A 2020 commit of the Windsor Lancers in the OUA, Akinbulumo has 48 games of regular season U SPORTS experience. His most impactful campaign came in his senior year with the Lancers in 2024-25, where he collected 82 rebounds, along with seven blocks, seven steals and 76 total points.

Akinbulumo's field goal percentage of 66.7 percent during 2024-25 also set a new single season school record, besting that of Stan Korosec from 1980-81, who shot 65.5 percent overall.

In total, Akinbulumo recorded 123 points for the Lancers from 2022-24, while adding 126 rebounds. The best game of his university career came against York on January 17, 2025, where he tallied 14 points on 7-9 shooting from the field, while scooping up ten rebounds.

He was also named Windsor's Most Improved Player in the 2023-24 season, which saw him improved his minutes total by 136, averaging 9.2 per game. He scored in double figures twice that year, including an 11 point, four rebound performance againart Guelph in February of 2024.

"Segun is in the best shape of his life and ready to bring a veteran presence in the paint next season," said Bisons head coach Kirby Schepp. "We are excited to see what he can do for the Bisons!"
