The Bisons men's hockey team added more championship depth to their roster today, announcing the commitment of defenceman Liam Longo. The Oshawa, ON native was part of a Toronto Patriots squad that won the Buckland Cup (OJHL Championship) in 2026.
 
It was a historic season for Longo and company during Toronto's 2025-26 campaign. The program won a franchise-record 47 games in the regular season, while scoring 296 goals overall, which ranked second in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
 
A two-way defenceman, Longo contributed 20 points in 45 OJHL games. He was even more dynamic in the playoffs, helping the Patriots to a conference title and berth at nationals for the first time in 12 years with ten points in 20 games.
 
At the Centennial Cup, Longo added three assists in six games as the Patriots advanced to the national semi-finals for the first time in program history.
 
"Liam had an incredible Centennial Cup tournament for his team in Summerside, PEI," said Bisons head coach Gordon Burnett.
 
"A two-way defenceman, he did a great job shutting down opponents, and was able to transition the puck back offensively. He will be an excellent addition to our defensive core."
 
A former captain for the Oshawa Generals at the U18 AAA level (OMHA Champion), and assistant captain for the OJHL's Aurora Tigers, Longo brings maturity and poise to the locker room. He was an honour roll student in the classroom and a leader in his community.
 
Longo is the fourth Bisons commit to have won a league title this past year, joining Centenntial Cup champs Austin Dubinsky and Hayden Wheddon, and Ed Chynoweth Cup champ Nolan Chastko.
 
"I am extremely excited about this opportunity to attend the University of Manitoba and play for the Bisons next season," Longo added. I can't wait to meet my new coaches and teammates and get to work in September."
