Another CJHL National Champion has chosen the Herd for the upcoming season. Today, men’s hockey head coach Gordon Burnett announced the commitment of goaltender Austin Dubinsky, who helped the MJHL’s Niverville Nighthawks to a historic season in 2025-26, winning the Ed Chynoweth, and Centennial Cups in just their fourth year of existence.
Dubinsky joins teammate Hayden Wheddon, the MJHL’s leading scorer this past season, who announced his commitment to the Bisons last month. He is the seventh overall member of Manitoba’s recruiting class for the 2026-27 campaign, along with London Hoilett, Erik Pastro, Brandon Funk, Teague McAllister, Nolan Chastko, and Wheddon.
A member of the Nighthawks since 2024, Dubinsky has been a brick wall in net, recording a combined 56 regular season wins over the last two seasons. A total of 34 of those wins came during Niverville’s national championship season in 2025-26, where Dubinsky lost just three times in regulation, with a .939 save percentage. As a team, the Nighthawks went a franchise-best 51-6-1.
The top netminder in the CJHL, Dubinsky’s efforts earned him numerous accolades.
The 20-year-old Ardrossan, Alberta native received the Ed Belfour Top Goalie Award in the MJHL after finishing first in the MJHL in wins, third in goals-against average, and second in save percentage. He was also the MJHL Playoff MVP, CJHL Goaltender of the Year and a First Team All-Star.
