Box Score It was a rough afternoon from the field for the Manitoba Bisons women's basketball team as they dropped a 67-58 decision to the Calgary Dinos on Friday, Nov. 15 afternoon at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of M campus).
The Bisons (3-2) struggled inside the paint for most of the game, missing layup opportunities and finished 21-for-60 (35%) overall in the game.
Sheree Carmona-Galdamez led the Bisons with 11 points in the contest.
"We talk about it all the time, we are really good when we have five people on the floor playing really hard at the same time," said Bisons co-head coach
Michele Hynes. "We didn't have a lot of five people playing hard today."
Tamara Jarrett led Calgary (3-2) with 14 points but she left the game with an injury in the third quarter and did not return. Brianna Ghali had 13 points and four rebounds as well for the Dinos.
The home team got off to a quick start in the first quarter. Manitoba found themselves in the bonus only four minutes into the game and were able to build a lead at the foul line. The Bisons led 16-12 after the first but Calgary was able to find their offensive rhythm in the second.
Jarrett went a perfect eight-for-eight from the foul line in the quarter and Calgary took their first lead in the final moments of the half. Entering halftime, the Dinos led 32-26. Jarrett led all scorers at the break with 12 points. Carmona-Galdamez paced the Bisons with eight at half.
Calgary continued to execute in the second half. Despite losing Jarrett midway through the third quarter, the Dinos outworked Manitoba in the paint, earning many offensive rebounds and second chance points. At one point in the second half, the visitors opened up a 16 point lead and would cruise to a 67-58 victory.
The two teams now hold identical 3-2 records in the Prairie Division. They meet again tomorrow afternoon at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of M campus). Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. CT.
"We just got to work harder and have confidence and belief in what we are doing for it to work," said Hynes.
