Similar to last night's game, Calgary came out to a slow start, recording only two baskets in the first five minutes and forcing head coach Damian Jennings to call an early time-out after falling to an 11-5 deficit. The Dinos quickly tied it up with a three-pointer from Brianna Ghali and two free throws from Colborne.
The two teams exchanged baskets nearing the end of the first quarter, but Kelsey Lund gave Calgary their first lead of the game with a minute to go, and another basket from Colborne put the Dinos ahead by a score of 18-14 at the end of the first.
The Dinos carried their momentum into the second, allowing only one Manitoba basket in the first four minutes. Robyn Eyer kept the Bisons within reach adding her third field goal from outside the arc, but the Dinos answered back with three consecutive three-pointers of their own, to take a commanding 33-21 lead. Despite some foul trouble late in the quarter, the Dinos took a 33-24 advantage into the second half.
The third quarter started slowly for both teams, with only two baskets scored in the first three minutes. A beautiful coast-to-coast basket from Colborne sparked the Dinos offense midway through the quarter, pushing them to a 46-33 lead going into the final frame.
The fourth quarter was all Dinos as they outscored Manitoba by a huge margin of 19-6, including an outstanding 16 point run through the middle of the frame. Hirons was dominant throughout this run, recording six consecutive points and picking up two steals.
The Dinos look to improve to their first winning record of the season as they take on the Trinity Western Spartans next weekend, Nov. 28-29, at the Jack Simpson Gym.
