REGINA, Sask. – Katie Polischuk became the 11th player in University of Regina women's basketball history to score 1000 career points as the Cougars completed a weekend sweep with a 92-59 win over Manitoba on Saturday, January 14 night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Polischuk hit the career milestone in fitting fashion, as the school's all-time leader in three-pointers took a pass from Michaela Kleisinger and drilled a triple from the top of the arc for three of her game-high 26 points. Polischuk also tied her career high with 12 rebounds in the win.

Saturday's game saw the No. 3-ranked Cougars lead from start to finish as the home side scored the first 15 points of the game, eight of which were by Polischuk. Manitoba didn't score its first points until just under six minutes into the opening quarter and though the Bisons trailed 23-7 after the first, the Regina lead was also 16 at halftime as both teams scored 16 points in the second quarter.

But the third quarter was all Cougars as they started the half with seven consecutive points and also went on an 8-0 run in a span of less than a minute later in the period to end any hope of a Manitoba comeback.

Kyanna Giles fell just short of joining Polischuk with a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. Ainsley MacIntyre added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Kleisinger and Christina McCusker both came off the bench to score eight points. The Cougars enjoyed a 60-34 rebounding advantage and shot 43.6% from the field as they improve their Canada West record to 10-2 with the victory.

Taylor Randall scored 16 points for Manitoba, which falls to 1-11. Emma Thompson added 12 points for the Bisons, while Brittanie Parisien chipped in with 10.

The Cougars will hit the road next weekend for a pair of games at Brandon, while Manitoba will continue the Canada West schedule with Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20-21) games on the West Coast against Trinity Western.
