Women's Basketball Press Release

Top local talent Emilie Mclean signs with the Bisons

The 6'1" Dakota product is a multi-sport standout and provincial all-star.

The Bisons women's basketball program announced the commitment of one of the top players in Manitoba today, as 6'1" forward Emilie Mclean will join the Herd in 2026-27. A product of the powerhouse Dakota Lancers, Mclean won a JV title with her high school squad, and was named a MHSAA provincial all-star last season, while also repping the provincial team.

The No. 7 ranked player in the province as a grade 11, Mclean was a key piece for a Lancers varsity squad that advanced to the provincial final for a fourth year in a row. In the provincial semi-finals, she was unstoppable, recording a triple double, with 24 points, 18 rebounds and ten blocks. In the provincial final, she added a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards en route to an all-star selection.

"We are excited to have Emilie join the Herd next season. She is a great athlete with the work ethic and determination to play at the top level in U SPORTS."

"She has great size and mobility that adds depth inside for us, and she suits our style of play well. Emilie is also super eager to come to the gym every day, work hard and learn from her coaches and teammates, which makes her a perfect fit for our program."
Bisons head coach Michele Sung

Outside of basketball, the Evolve and Junior Bisons alum is multi-sport standout who competes in volleyball, cross-country and handball. She's also on the watch list for Canada Basketball, and maintains an 85 percent average in the classroom.

"I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to the Bisons women's basketball team. I look forward to furthering both my athletic and academic career as a Bison. This has been a dream of mine for years, and I'm so happy to see it become a reality. Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported, encouraged, and believed in me every step of the way. I couldn't have done it without you. Go Bisons!"
