Men's Basketball Press Release

Men's basketball announce commitment of sharpshooter Bruno Van Bewer

The 6'5" shooting guard from College Jeanne- Sauvé averaged 20 points per game and was named an SCAC All-Star from 2022-26, among many other accolades.

The men's basketball program added one of the province's top scorers today, announcing the commitment of 6'5" shooting guard Bruno Van Bewer. The team captain, the College Jeanne- Sauvé product averaged 20 points per game and was named an SCAC All-Star from 2022-26.

Van Bewer also averaged eight rebounds per game and seven assists per game, and was ranked No. 9 in the province by the Winnipeg Free Press. He was a 2025 Canada Games Standout Player for Team Manitoba and has also suited up for 204 Elite.

We are excited to add a dynamic scorer in Bruno. One of the leaders of last summer Canada Summer Games team, his athleticism and ability to shoot the ball gives him all the tools to be a great university player.
Kirby Schepp, men's basketball head coach

Van Bewer has been a leader off the court as well. In the classroom he's maintained an honour roll average of 85 percent, and he's connected to his culture as a proud Red River Metis, Francophone athlete.

I remember when I was younger, I went to a Bisons game as Junior Bison and I remember saying to myself, I want to be like them. And now here I am, playing under the guidance of Coach Schepp, all while being able to stay home and play in front of my family and friends.
