The Manitoba Bisons basketball teams continue the second half of the 2014-15 conference season by hosting the CIS Top 10 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday, January 23 and then Saturday, January 24 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus). On Friday, the women's game will be at 6 p.m. CT and the men's game is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT while on Saturday, women's start at 5 p.m. CT and men's at 7 p.m. CT.
The Bison men's basketball team (9-5) is battling for a top spot in the competitive Pioneers Division as only four points separate top four teams. Manitoba is 6-2 at home and tied for second with 18 points. Saskatchewan is eighth ranked in the country and in fourth place at 8-4 and has a four game conference winning streak. The Top 7 from the division qualifies for post-season.
In this conference men's basketball season, the Bisons are fifth in scoring offence at 80.9 points per game and fifth in scoring defence at 77.6 points per game. In Canada West free throw made and attempts, Manitoba is second with 239 and 348. In overall rebounding, the Bisons are first at 44.6 per game plus first in offensive rebounding at 14.6 per game while third in defensive rebounding at 30.0 per game. The Herd are also third in field goal shots made at 403, tied for eighth with 14.0 assists per game and tied for fifth in steals per game at 8.9. A.J. Basi leads the team and tenth in Canada West scoring at 16.6 points per game while Wyatt Anders is tied for second in conference rebounds per game at 10.2. Stephan Walton is 12th in conference assist with 3.8 per game.Â
The Bison women's basketball team (1-13) will host #5 Saskatchewan (9-3) during the weekend. Saskatchewan is tied for third in Pioneers Division with UBC.
In this conference women's basketball season, the Bisons are 16th in scoring offence at 55.1 points per game and 16th in scoring defence at 70.7 points per game. In Canada West field goals made, the Bisons are tenth at 293 and sixth in 3-point shots made at 75. In offence rebounds, the Herd sit 14th at 11.4 per game. Manitoba is ninth in steals at 9.1 per game and tied for 12th in blocks per game at 1.8. Robyn Eyer leads the squad and tied for 19th in Canada West scoring at 12.9 points per game plus Eyer is fifth in 3-point percentage in conference at 43.4%.
