CALGARY – In the last home game of his career, University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball star Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson once again led his squad to victory, sweeping the Manitoba Bisons in the Canada West Play-In series with a 93-81 victory Saturday, February 21 night in the Jack Simpson Gym.

The fifth-year point guard had 23 points, six rebounds and six assists as the Dinos stayed aggressive in the second half and got stops when they had to, ending the Bisons' season.

The Dinos led just 36-35 at halftime but scored 57 in the second half, although Ogungbemi-Jackson said defense was the key.

"They have so many talented guards that you have to get back, if you don't get back they're going to hit threes and take it to the rim," he said.

Manitoba would make a run in the third quarter and took a 53-47 lead at the 3:52 mark. But that's when veteran guard Josh Owen-Thomas turned it on, scoring six straight points and after an Ogungbemi-Jackson layup, the Dinos were back up by two.

The Bisons tied it at 55, but Owen-Thomas scored another four straight and after a three by Jasdeep Gill late in the quarter, Ogungbemi-Jackson threw a perfect pass to L.J. Hegwood for a thunderous alley-oop dunk to give Calgary the momentum and the 65-57 lead going into the fourth.

"Josh Owen-Thomas has one of the toughest jobs because he's always guarding one of their best players full court, rebounding and playing some point guard duties and he came up big," Ogungbemi-Jackson said.

However Manitoba wouldn't go away, cutting a 10-point fourth quarter Calgary lead to three at 76-73 with just over four minutes left. But in the one offensive area where the Dinos have struggled most of this season, they came up huge. After shooting just 68.7 per cent at the free-throw line in the regular season, the Dinos were 26-31 from the line on the night, including 16-18 in the fourth quarter.

The Bisons were still alive with less than two minutes remaining, down just four points at 81-77, but Lars Schlueter - who had not scored the entire game - hit a dagger three at 1:37 to give Calgary a seven-point lead.

They would ice it from there and although the Bisons never gave up, Calgary's strong night at the free-throw line led them to victory.

Manitoba was once again led by super-sub A.J. Basi, who scored a team-high 20 points, while Wyatt Anders, Justus Alleyn and Stephan Walton also scored in double-figures.

Phil Barndt had 13 points and Owen-Thomas also ended with 13, while the Dinos also got a spark from forward Mitch Ligertwood, who after averaging just five minutes a game in the regular season, came off the bench to score eight points in 18 minutes of action.

"He came in and battled and nothing was easy, so we're lucky to have Mitch and hopefully he can keep playing this way for us," Ogungbemi-Jackson said.

Ogungbemi-Jackson kissed the floor after ending his home career, as Calgary's playoff path will continue on the road. The Dinos will travel to the University of Fraser Valley for a best-of-three quarterfinal matchup with the Cascades next weekend, with the winner advancing to the conference Final Four. With the series loss, the Bisons end their 2014-15 season.
