Another standout from the WHL has chosen Manitoba for their next destination, as local product Skyler Bruce announced today his commitment to the men's hockey program. Bruce is the fourth commit in the Herd's 2024 class, joining fellow WHL alum Cade Zaplitny, Grady Lane and Dexter Whittle.Â
A right winger, Bruce has over 200 games of WHL experience, scoring at least 15 goals in three different seasons. He spent the most time in his WHL career with the Winnipeg ICE (2020-23), including the 2021-22 campaign, where Winnipeg had the best record in the Eastern Conference, at 53-10-3-2, while advancing to the conference final.Â
This past year, Bruce played for the Vancouver Giants and Edmonton Oil Kings, amassing his most productive offensive season in the WHL. He was originally a second-round pick by the ICE in the 2018 WHL Draft after scoring 64 points in 34 games with the Rink Hockey Academy, which led the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.Â
"We are very happy to be adding Skyler to our group. Skyler possesses the ability to add offence to our team as he has proven throughout his career in the WHL including putting up 39 points in 43 games last season," said head coach Gordon Burnett.
"We are excited to get started with Skyler in our lineup, both for his hockey abilities and also the great person he is."
