Continuing impressive campaigns,
Skyler Bruce and
Madisson Lawrence are Bison Sports Athletes of the Week.Â
Bruce has been a difference-maker all year as a rookie for Bisons hockey. The former WHL standout's 29 points this season are the most by a freshman in school history in 20 years. Two of those points, both goals, came over the weekend against nationally ranked Alberta.Â
Bruce scored in both games against the Golden Bears, with his third period tally on the Friday sending the game to overtime. Manitoba won the game in the extra session, offering up the upset of the season and the biggest victory of the year for the squad.Â
Bruce has scored goals in five of his last six games, and his 29 points are third among all rookies in Canada West. His shooting percentage of 28.8 is first among rookies, and sixth in Canada West.Â
On the track, Lawrence continues to add to her legacy as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in school history. The former gold medalist at the Canada West and U SPORTS levels has auto-qualified in three different disciplines, most recently in the pentathlon, where she's a previous nationals gold medalist.Â
Lawrence put down 4,065 points in her pent opener at the NDSU Open over the weekend, well exceeding the U SPORTS auto standard of 3,647. She's one of only three athletes to record over 4,000 points in the pentathlon this year.
Lawrence has now auto qualified in the pent, high jump and triple jump. She's also ranked in the top 12 in the nation in the long jump and the 300m, and is a part of multiple Bisons relay teams.
