Bisons women's volleyball announces first commitment for 2028

The Bisons women's volleyball team has secured its first commitment for the 2028 recruiting class, announcing the addition of Kyra Moore, a 5'2" libero from St. Adolphe, Man. A longtime member of the Junior Bisons program, Moore joins the Herd after years of development within the organization's pathway system.

Moore has been part of the Junior Bisons since 2022 and has consistently contributed to championship-calibre teams. During her club career, she has helped her teams capture a 13U provincial championship in 2022, a Manitoba Games title in 2023 as team captain, a Best of the West championship in 2024, a 16U provincial championship in 2025, and a 17U provincial championship and Central Showdown title in 2026.

Her success has extended beyond the team level. Moore was named a First Look All-Canadian in 2025 and added Qwench 16U All-Canadian and Central Showdown All-Star honours in 2026.

"We are pleased to announce Kyra Moore as our first 2028 commit," said head coach Ken Bentley. "Kyra has made an exceptional commitment to her craft of becoming a libero at the U SPORTS level through her many years of development as a Junior Bison athlete."

Bentley noted that Moore's dedication and understanding of the program's values have been evident throughout her development within the organization.

"I have seen her work firsthand for many years now and she has been unwavering in her goals to date," he said. "Kyra is a culture carrier. She understands the responsibilities of being a U SPORTS athlete at our level and will hold herself and her teammates to a high standard each day."

Those qualities have been on display throughout Moore's time with Team Manitoba, where she competed with Team Manitoba Black in 2025 and Team Manitoba Gold in 2026, while continuing to establish herself as one of the province's top young defensive specialists.

Away from the court, the Dakota Collegiate student has excelled academically as well, earning Honour Roll recognition in both Grade 9 and Grade 10.

"I grew up in the Bisons gym and started out in the mini volleyball program at seven, and it is where I fell in love with the sport," said Moore. "Being part of the Junior Bisons program for the past five years, I have been able to witness and learn what it truly means to be a Bison."

"The culture of the team and program is something I really value and is truly special. The team as a whole is a family, and I have grown up witnessing the love and respect all the girls and coaches have for each other. It has always been my dream to continue being a Bison at the next level and part of this family."

"The Junior Bisons program has shaped me into the athlete and person I am today. It is an honor to represent the University of Manitoba and I am really excited to play for Ken. I am so grateful to have the privilege to play at home and am excited to enter this next chapter as part of this incredible program."
