Record-holder Owen Unrau commits to Bisons

The Carberry, MB native holds the school record for points in a game, with 68.

The men's basketball program added another dynamic scorer today, announcing the commitment of 6'6" wing Owen Unrau. The Carberry, MB native was unstoppable at the AA level with Carberry Collegiate, averaging 42 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game and, 3.2 blocks per game and 2.3 steals per game.

Unrau also holds the Carberry school record for points in a game, netting 68. Overall in his last two years in the sport across the club, high school and prep levels, (Evolve, Central Canada Prep, Carberry), he's averaged 23 points per game. 

"Owen is an outstanding young man and coming from a great basketball family out in Carberry," said Bisons head coach Kirby Schepp. "He is just scratching the surface of his potential. We are really looking forward to seeing him develop over the next five years. Owen has a passion for the game and all the tools to be a great player in Canada West."

Unrau's efforts have earned him numerous accolades. He was named the 2026 Basketball Manitoba AA Player of the Year, is a three-time Provincial All-Star and earned a Team Canada U18 National Tryout invite at the start of the month. In the classroom, he's an honour roll student. 

"From the first moment I met coach Kirby Schepp, I felt like he was the coach I was looking for," Unrau said.

"I find that he will be able to help me fully expand my game in every single way, with a strong work ethic in both the classroom and on the court. The University of Manitoba will be the perfect fit for me. I would also like to thank coach Kirby Schepp and the University of Manitoba staff for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity."
