Bison men’s hockey team looks to clinches fourth place and a home playoff series when they host UBC on Feb. 14-16 weekend at Wayne Fleming Arena

Manitoba in fourth place and in four-way battle for playoff spots in last weekend of season

With two games left in the 2013-14 Canada West conference regular season, the Manitoba Bisons men's hockey team looks to clinches a Top 4 place in the Canada West standings and host a home playoff series for the February 21-23 weekend.

The Bisons will complete the conference regular season by hosting the seventh place UBC Thunderbirds (10-14-2) on February 14-15 with game time on 7 p.m. CT on Friday and special time of 6 p.m. CT on Saturday with games held at Wayne Fleming Arena (U of Manitoba campus). Earlier this season, Manitoba swept at UBC (Nov. 22: W 6-3; Nov. 23: W 6-4).

Heading into weekend series, Manitoba is in fourth spot in Canada West with an 11-11-4 record for 26 points. The top six teams in conference make the playoffs with top 2 earning first round bye while third and fourth place host the 2014 Canada West Quarter Final series. The spots of fourth to sixth are still up for grabs as the Herd can finish as high as fourth or as low as out of the playoffs in seventh place. Fifth place Mount Royal and Regina (24 points each) and seventh UBC (22 points) all battle for the last three playoff spots during the weekend. 

In the second half of this season so far, the Herd have a 4-3-3 record and have secured points at home in seven of the last ten contests.

In Canada West 2013-14 scoring, third year forward Aaron Lewadniuk (12 goals, 15 assists) leads the team and tied for 11th in Canada West scoring with 27 points. Second year forward Jesse Paradis (10g, 16a) is tied for 14th in conference and second on the team with 26 points. Lewadniuk is tied for eighth in conference goals with 12 while third year Brendan Rowinski is tied for tenth in Canada West with 17 assists.  

Jordan DePape (8g, 14a) is third in Canada West rookie scoring with 22 points while rookie defenceman Luke Paulsen (3g, 8a) is tied for 16th in Canada West defenceman scoring with 11 points. Goalie Joe Caligiuri is eighth in Canada West with 3.17 Goals Against Average, tied for eighth in Save Pct. at .897, tied for fifth with two shutouts and also tied for fifth with ten conference wins.
