The No. 1 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies rolled to a 8-3 win over the University of Manitoba Bisons on Friday, January 29 night at Rutherford Rink to record their eighth consecutive win in men's hockey.

The Huskies got goals from Kohl Bauml, Jaimen Yakubowski, Andrew Johnson (2), Josh Roach, Jordan Fransoo, Michale Sofillas and Cameron Blair. Warren Callis, Jordan DePape and Brett Stovin were the scorers for Manitoba.

Saskatchewan improves to 20-3-0 with the victory and stays in first place in Canada West, while the Bisons fall below .500 at 10-11-2 and in fifth place in the conference standings. The Huskies finished the night 3-of-9 on the power-play. Manitoba scored one of its five chances.

Jordon Cooke made 23 saves for his 17^th win of the season, while Justin Paulic took the loss while making 36 saves for Manitoba.

Manitoba took the initial lead of Friday night's contest. Just 31 seconds in, Warren Callis pounced on a rebound and slid the puck past Cooke to silence the Saskatoon crowd.

It didn't take the top ranked team in the CIS long to respond.

At 4:49 of the first Huskie points leader Kohl Bauml tallied his 10^th goal of the season with a perfect shot to the bottom corner of the net.  

Just 15 seconds later it was Jaimen Yakubowski burying his second goal of the year, finishing off Gatzke's second assist of the night to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

Midway through the first, the Huskies would strike again. Andrew Johnson scored his first of two goals in a 17 second span. On the first, Johnson picked up the puck after a neutral zone turnover by the Bisons and fired a shot glove side on Paulic. For his 11^th goal of the season Johnson finished off a wrap around attempt, jamming the puck between the pads of Paulic to put the Huskies in control at 4-1.

The scoring rush would cool off until the Huskies were back on the power-play eight minutes into the second. John Lawrence took a Paker Thomas pass hard to the net before dishing off a pass at the last moment to a streaking Josh Roach. Roach made no mistake tapping in his fifth of the season at 11:46.

Manitoba would finally end a string of five straight Huskie goals when Canada West goal scoring leader Jordan DePape notched his 15^th of the season. DePape collected a rebound in the slot and sent a wrist shot past Cooke at 12:42 for the power-play goal.

With the score at 5-2, the Huskies would end any hopes of a Manitoba upset with another power-play marker. Jordan Fransoo walked in from the blue line and sent a shot past a screened Paulic for his third of the season at 14:59.

Saskatchewan would get an early third period goal, again with the man advantage. Michael Sofillas put his shot into the top corner of the net, glove side on Paulic, for his fifth of the season at 1:11.

Manitoba's Brett Stovin would score his 11^th of the season with the Huskies on the power-play. The short-handed goal cut the deficit to 7-3 at 10:46. Cameron Blair would get in on the Huskie scoring fest with a goal at 16:41 of the third to round out the scoring.

The two teams meet again Saturday, Jan. 30 night at 7 p.m. CT in Rutherford Rink.
