Bisons men's hockey face another critical series this weekend at Wayne Fleming Arena. At 9-12-1 and 19 points, they sit five points up on Regina (6-13-1), who come in out of the playoff picture but hungry to move into it.
One thing these prairie rivals share is an ability to score in five-on-five hockey. The Bisons and Cougars rank last in Canada West in power play efficiency, at 18.8% and 10.1% respectively. That hasn't been a problem for Manitoba's forward line of
Jeremey Leipsic,
Devon Skoleski, and
Colton Veloso, though, as the three have combined for 11 points in the last four games.
Regina is last in the conference in goals scored with 48, and only have one scorer in the top 50 in Conner Chaulk — who has five goals and seven assists on the season.

The
Bisons women (7-9) were in tough last weekend against the No. 1 Saskatchewan Huskies. This time, they'll face another green team in the Regina Cougars (6-8), with both rosters trying to solidify their place in the Canada West playoffs. With the top 12 teams making the post-season, only six points separate fifth from 13
th in the conference.
The guard matchup of
Taylor Randall and Michaela Kleisinger should be one to watch in this one. Randall is eighth in conference scoring (17.1 PPG) with Kleisinger 19
th (12.5 PPG), as both like to shoot the ball and get to the line regularly — up over 2.9 FT/G per game.
The No. 9 ranked
Bisons men (12-2), meanwhile, host Regina (7-7) looking to stay in the hunt for one of Canada West's top two seeds.
Fourth-years
Keiran Zziwa and
Andre Arruda stepped up in a big way for Manitoba with leading scorer
Rashawn Browne in and out of the lineup due to injury against Saskatchewan. Zziwa had a buzzer-beater three to win the first game, then followed up with a career-high 34 points last Sunday. Arruda, meanwhile, scored 42 points over the two games and made nine threes.
With Browne set to return this weekend, the Bisons men are hoping to continue what's been an outstanding regular season run.

Just half a game up on Mount Royal (7-10) for the last playoff spot in Canada West, the
Bisons men (7-9) look to make a statement against No. 6 ranked Alberta (12-4) on the road this weekend.
Alberta's leading weapon has been outside Jackson Kennedy, who sits tenth in the conference in kills (167) and kills per set (3.21). Kennedy has also been ultra-efficient when the Golden Bears have called his number, with a percentage of .370 ranking fourth in CW. The Bisons have struggled lately, but back line defence from
Owen Schwartz has been strong. The third-year is now fifth in CW at 107 total digs.
The
Bisons women (2-16) will face a similarly stiff test in No. 7 ranked Alberta (10-6).
The Pandas have been led by outside Kory White, who leads CW in kills per set (4.97) and total attacks (776). It'll be a good matchup for the Bisons' block, which has improved in recent weeks thanks to the play of first-years
Light Uchechukwu and
Jaidyn Spencer. On the attack, fourth-year
Kearley Abbott continues to lead the way with 2.57 kills per set.

While a rallying effort came up short in their last game, Bisons women's hockey (5-14-2-1) have quietly stayed in the playoff picture, eight points back of sixth-place UBC with six games to go (a win counts for three points in CW women's hockey).
This weekend, they visit Regina (8-10-4-0) to face a team that's won six straight. The Cougars have been led by Jaycee Magwood, who has ten goals (second in CW) and seven assists on the season, with ten of those points coming on the man advantage. The Bisons, meanwhile, are seeing their young roster improve — including second-year goalie
Erin Fargey, who had a career-high 35 assists in a shutout win over UBC last Friday night.
