Red hot Bisons men’s hockey host Spartans

Momentum and rest are on the Bisons side this weekend as they continue a late season drive for the post-season.

Victorious in four of their last five, men's hockey (5-8-1) come out of a bye and into a series against the Trinity Western Spartans (1-13-0) looking for two more wins.

That result would tie them with the idle Regina Cougars for the sixth and final playoff spot in Canada West and set up a showdown between the rivals on Feb. 4-5 at Wayne Fleming Arena.

Despite a Jan. 15 injury to their leading scorer, former Manitoba Moose forward Brett Davis, the Bisons are hoping their explosive offence can keep on trucking.

The Bisons have scored four or more goals in all their wins since Nov. 20, with the forward line of Noah Basarab, Geordie Keane and Keaton Jameson excelling in their most recent games.

The line combined for five of Manitoba's nine goals in their Jan. 14-15 sweep of the MacEwan Griffins, as Gimli native and NAHL alum Basarab scored his first three U SPORTS goals and was named Bisons Male Athlete of the Week.

Just six games remain on the schedule for Manitoba, as they head out to Saskatchewan following the Regina series next weekend.
