Busy weekend for men's hockey includes seniors night, Mike Sirant appreciation and much more

On the ice, the Bisons are just three points shy of the final playoff spot.

It will be an emotional weekend on the ice, as Bisons men's hockey head coach Mike Sirant concludes a legendary career at the helm of the Herd with his final two regular season home games at 7 pm Friday and 2 pm Saturday.

The leader of the program for almost 30 years, Sirant will retire at the end of June and is being recognized prior to Friday's game. Regardless, he is determined to help lead his squad to the playoffs one final time. In order to do so, the Bisons will need to knock off second ranked Alberta, and get some help, as Regina and MacEwan both have 19 points heading into this weekend. Click here to get tickets.

It's also seniors night, as captain Geordie Keane, alternate captains Liam Schioler, Mitch Dyck and Dylan Thiessen and forward Devon Skoleski will be honoured prior to Saturday's game, while Friday will also see members of the Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council's North End Hockey Program in attendance.

An aggressive team on the forecheck that likes to push their d-men up into the play, the Golden Bears (18-5-1-2) will look to attack early and often, led by forwards Josh Prokop, Jakin Smallwood and Tyler Preziuso, who've combined for 95 points and are all in the top five in scoring. The Herd (8-17-0-1) counter with a balanced d-core along with sa bevvy of shut-down forwards. Look for Keane to create energy on the checking line, while Manitoba's top six, including Skoleski, Brett Davis and Hayden Ostir will be key in sustaining offensive pressure.

The trio of forwards all have at least ten goals on the year, led by Skoleski and Davis' team-leading 11. Ostir has been on a tear as of late, including his first career U SPORTS hat trick last weekend against No. 1 nationally ranked Calgary, and six goals in his last three overall.
